United States: Type of Economy: The United States' economy is capitalistic, much like Canada. A capitalistic government requires very little government management. (See Canada's type of government for more information.) (http://library.thinkquest.org/03oct/00921/typesofeconomies.htm)
Health of American Economy: The United States' economy is in big trouble. At the moment, the USA is about 12 trillion dollars in debt and counting. (http://www.usdebtclock.org/) Go to http://www.usdebtclock.org/ to see the amount of money the United States owes. As said on http://www.newsweek.com/id/123811, "The stunning fall of Bear Stearns reflects these realities. Bear Stearns was not a traditional commercial bank that took deposits from the public, but America's fifth-largest investment bank, which funded most of its operations with borrowed money ("leverage"). On average, the ratio of borrowed money to underlying capital for investment banks and hedge funds is about 32-1, according to a recent study. Many of these loans—commercial paper, "repurchase agreements," bank credits—are backed by the securities owned by the borrowing financial institutions."

Health of Canadian Economy:
Canada is not in good shape as it is in a recession as of June 2009. (http://www.thestar.com/business/article/643825) A recession is when something withdraws (so in the economy, the buying and selling of stocks would slow, (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/re+cession) although it is not as bad as a depression. (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-a-depression-and-a-recession.htm) It is officially a recession because for the last two quarters of the year in Canada (fourth quarter of 2008 and first quarter of 2009) stocks were down. Fourth quarter stocks were down 3.7% and the first quarter stocks was 5.4%. (http://www.thestar.com/business/article/643825) Canada also has a high unemployment rate at 8.7% (as of September 17, 2009) and it is expected to go high to possibly 10% next year. Mexico:
Type of Economy:
The economy of Mexico is a free market economy. (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/mx.html) A free market is (according to http://www.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard106.html) 'a summary term for an array of exchanges that take place in society' which basically means trading. (http://www.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard106.html) In this economy supply and demand really comes into play as business will only make as much products as the people want. Prices also change this way (if a product is popular the price may be high). (http://www.economywatch.com/market-economy/)
Health of Mexican Economy:
As of April 27,2009 Mexico is in a recession. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wpdyn/content/article/2009/04/26/AR2009042602260.html) Mexico's bank is optimistic, though as it said (according to http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/business/index.ssf?/base/business-38/1253295785280500.xml&storylist=business) that the recession 'hit bottom and a stage of growth will begin' implying that it really can't get any worse. It also said that recovery will take a while. (http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/business/index.ssf?/base/business-38/1253295785280500.xml&storylist=business)
According to http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601068&sid=aE7Lo7K6lxb4 'The government (of Mexico) forecasts annual inflation will be 4.3 percent at the end of this year'. . Drug cartels are making Mexico's economy worse because investors in the United States are worried about security, so they are not investing money on things in Mexico. (http://www.reuters.com/article/reutersEdge/idUSTRE53173Z20090402) Also the recent swine flu epidemic (H1N1) also made the economy worse when in April; people had to close their stores for five days so the swine flu would not spread as much. The Mexican government ordered the closure of these stores.
